In marketing, it’s a good idea to focus on “the three M’s”: market (the who), message (the what), and media (the how).  If you can get a compelling message to your market by using the right media, your phone will be ringing and your childcare business will soon be full.

The Market: Shifts & Changes

Think about your market, and do a little research about what’s going on there.  Are you in a growing area that has lots of new families coming in?  Or are you in a stagnant area that is struggling due to plant closings?  Who are the largest employers close to your daycare, and do they know about you?  Where are the closest elementary schools, and do the ladies in the office know about you?  Do something in your business that’s different and unique compared to your competition, and word of mouth about you will bloom.

The Message

Parents looking to make a childcare decision are still looking for the basics in quality, although they may be looking to spend a little less.

In fact, due to the economy right now, many parents are down-sizing their child care budget.  People who were using a nanny may opt for a center.  People at a center may opt to trim costs by going with a home daycare provider.  If you can market your business as “similar quality for a lower price”, you have an excellent message for gaining new clients.
