Understanding the many financial products available will aid you to get a firmer grip on your financial situation.

Another good piece of advice is to create a financial plan. You will require cash for different things at various different stages of your life therefore your priorities will also change as time goes by. You should plan for all major foreseeable expenses and create a financial plan accordingly. Track your portfolio and keep a check on all of your financial products.

You also need to have some funds set aside for emergencies, be it sudden unemployment or a medical crisis. Make sure you have set aside enough resources for you to live for up to six months without income.

The best way to empower your teachers is to ask questions that spur their curiosity and creativity. Here are some techniques:

  • Challenge the conventional wisdom. Ask questions that move people away from the tried-and-true and help them think more creatively. For example: “What if we give our product away to every 10th caller on Tuesdays?”

  • Change the perspective. Pose questions that take a higher view of a problem—that encourage people to think of the long term or the broader implications. “How will this change affect the competition? What will happen to the marketplace as a result?”

  • Include the entire organization. Frame questions that address the needs of your organization and the people in it. “If we eliminate unnecessary paperwork, what will happen in the accounting department?”

  • Spur excitement. Ask questions that get people excited about possibilities and potential (and not afraid of the price of failure). “Do you see any reason why we shouldn’t put this idea into action right away?”

The number of non-profit businesses continues to grow by leaps and bounds each year. However, not everyone who decides to start a non-profit has actually thought out their idea thoroughly. Don’t make the mistake of jumping into the non-profit arena too quickly. Think it through before you start your non-profit business.

#1. Make Sure You Do Your Research

It is important that you have a passion for your cause, but you need to also remember that a non-profit is still a business and so you need to be realistic about whether or not starting it is a wise move. You need to determine if there is a need for your non-profit or would it be better if you partnered with an existing non-profit organization. Is this really the best solution for your idea?

#2 Time for You to Develop Your Business Plan

A non-profit is just another form of a business. You need to have adequate money coming in so that you can survive and carry out your mission. Many non-profits start with more hope than money. They hope they will have what they need to succeed rather than creating a business plan to make sure they have what they need to be successful.

#3 Be Sure You Will Qualify as a Non-Profit

You might have a great idea but you need to make sure that it will qualify as a non-profit.

#4 Make Sure That You Meet All of Your Legal Requirements

A non-profit is regulated heavily at many different levels. This is done to protect donors from fraud and to make sure that the non-profit serves the public in the manner it is supposed. Do not assume because you are a non-profit that you can’t get into trouble. That’s simply not true. In fact, many non-profits find themselves in trouble because they don’t understand all of the rules.

#5 Make Sure You Keep Good Records

Your record keeping is very important and there are many additional reporting requirements for non-profits, so right from the very beginning make sure you are keeping very good records

studyAlthough some children appear to be born with a natural inclination for routine and order, others are free spirits and need some assistance in order to discover ways to make their life run more smoothly. Teaching children organizational skills can make family life run a lot more efficiently and cut down friction when children have to keep their rooms clean and do homework and there are some good tips that can help with this learning process.

One smart idea is to track all of the family activities on a calendar that is accessible to everyone. Every night get together and discuss the activities that are scheduled for the following day and encourage kids to check the calendar before adding any other activity.

Daily checklists are also a good idea to help keep track of homework, instrument practice or household chores. This also teaches children how to prioritize. Teach children to prepare their clothes for the following day the night before and have everything laid out for the morning, including making lunches and packing their backpack.

Another way to teach children organization is to encourage them to have some kind of collection that can be classified, sorted and organized.

2012_05_timeWork hours have begun steadily creeping into our home lives with more and more people taking care of job issues on weekends and during the evening. The result is an environment in which it is even more difficult than ever to balance our personal life and careers.

Achieving a happy work/life balance becomes much more difficult without the setting of clear boundaries. Fortunately there are things you can do to ease the situation. One good tip is to set priorities. If you have twenty five things that need to be done on a certain day, narrow that list down to the ones that are absolutely essential. Not only will you be less stressed from not trying to do everything at once but the quality of your work on the ones you do take on will also be demonstrably superior.

It is also a good idea to choose the tasks that need your personal attention. Any tasks that can be done by anyone should be delegated wherever possible. Nobody can do everything; we can only do our best.

Trying to maintain all facets of life while also trying to build a new business can seem like an almost impossible task for those just starting a company. The reality is that trying to get your start-up firm to fit into the schedule of an eight hour working day is never going to work. Instead you need to rethink your entire schedule from the ground up. Your schedule might be all consuming, but the truth it is also likely to be free form, meaning that breaks can often take place whenever you feel like it. The trick is to make sure that the time you take off is as optimal and useful as it can possibly be.

One very important tip is to find a network consisting of fellow entrepreneurs. Surrounding yourself with likeminded individuals is a great way to get through the emotional and business issues associated with starting your own company.

social mediaSocial media seems to have made all aspects of our personal lives into a matter of public concern, including our relationships. Some people however might not want to go public and there are many good reasons to avoid sharing your private life with strangers online.

One way to keep your relationship low profile is to avoid tagging your significant other. It is even possible to appear in photographs with someone with whom you are in a relationship holding hands, but if you do not tag your other half, Facebook and Twitter will not even notice. Ask your friends to avoid doing the same.

The most obvious method is to simply avoid posting private photos of you as a couple on social media sites at all if you want your private life to remain private. Be careful to avoid sharing too much information in a tweet and turn off your location. If you and your partner like to tweet about activities you do, negotiate so that only of you can tweet about doing something at the same time.

Three-day weekends like Labor Day or President’s Day can be relaxing and fun. Then comes Tuesday—back to the grind. Your return to work doesn’t have to be excruciating, though. Follow these tips from a recent Time magazine article to get back into the swing of things without undue trauma:

Goals

  • Show up early. Get a jump on the day by coming to work a little earlier than usual. You’ll feel less rushed and stressed as you gear up for the week. Spend a few minutes putting together a to-do list that organizes your activities and puts you back in control of your time.

  • Hold off on email. Confronting a backlog of messages will generally make you feel overwhelmed. Check for urgent signals, but don’t start answering emails until you’ve made progress on your priorities.

  • Jump right in. Don’t waste time rehashing the holiday with your co-workers. Get right to work on a top project or priority so that when you take a break, you’ve got something constructive to show for your first few hours back. Save weekend stories for lunchtime.

  • Plan for the next time. When your next three-day weekend approaches, spend a few minutes on Friday afternoon setting a schedule for your return. You’ll be able to hit the ground running with confidence.

2013_09_worklife Promoting a nonprofit can be a bit on the tricky side, especially since you want to keep your costs to a minimum to ensure the most amount of money reaches the organization. Here are some great tools to help you promote your nonprofit in a cost effective manner.

What a great tool at your fingertips and it doesn’t have to cost you anything. Use social media networks like Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook, which are all free. There are other networks so make sure you search to find the ones that will work best for you to bring you targeted traffic. There are also cost effective advertising options that you can use.

#2 Join Professional Networks

Establishing your nonprofit takes a lot of work and support. One way to get the momentum you need to get the word out about your nonprofit organization is to join the Chamber of Commerce in your area and find other professional networks you can take advantage of.

#3 Create Your Website

Create a website that can reach a wide audience. Make sure it is done professionally and has been search engine optimized. If you want to create your own website, there are many affordable places that you can do that.

#4 Don’t Stop Talking

If you do not tell anyone about your organization then how will they know about it? That means you need to be talking about it at every opportunity that comes your way. Speaking engagements are a great way to share information about your nonprofit. You might also create workshops or participate in trade shows or artisan fairs to share the word. Make sure that you do a press release for your local newspaper for every event that allows you to spread the word.

#5 Create Good Partnerships

Establish good partnerships to help you reach a broader audience. Nonprofits often use manpower and resources and you can create a better base to work from by creating strategic partnerships that help you create a strong presence.

Car Travel SafetyIn all of the packing and preparation that a family vacation can necessitate, one thing that can sometimes be overlooked is the safety and readiness of your motor vehicle on long journeys. Being stranded in the middle of nowhere because of a flat tire or overheating will put a dampener on anyone’s vacation.

In order to make sure this does not take place you should check the tire pressure and the tread. Non-existent or low tread makes traction very difficult and can indicate that the tire is worn out. Make sure you check the tire and consult the owner’s manual to find out how much air is needed as this can vary between vehicles. Front tires also sometimes need a different amount from rear tires.

You should also check brake fluid, oil and anti-freeze before setting out on any long trips. Have jumper cables in the car just in case of battery failure as well as a spare tire and a jack. You should also rotate your tires every five thousand miles that you travel.
