One of the top things to remember when trying to open a daycare is safety. Keep in mind that the business will be dealing with children and this requires the highest form of precautions available.

Start with the Staff

To start a daycare, owners must first have competent staff that is qualified to take care of children. The ratio of staff to children varies depending on how old the child is. Typically, it starts with 1 adult for every 3 infants. The number of manageable children can add up as they grow older. The staff themselves must be thoroughly checked out to ensure that they have no prior legal issues that would factor in child care. In some states, attaining higher education, completing training and being adept in CPR and First Aid are also necessary.

Safe and Clean Toys

Before trying to open a daycare, owners must first stock up on different toys and accessories. The toys should be age appropriate to ensure that they can be played with safely. This includes anything from building blocks to the art supplies provided by the daycare. If there is a player area with swings and slides, then the items should be made of plastic without any sharp edges.

The Environment

All entrances must be kept closed at all times, any stairs installed with railings and all restricted areas carefully locked. Electric sockets must also have caps on them and electrical wires kept out of reach at all times. The play area must be covered by soft and thick carpet to ensure that children wouldn’t hurt themselves should they fall during playtime. As a precautionary measure, fire and smoke alarms shout be put in place with the staff properly trained in the event of emergencies. A fire extinguisher should be kept in stock not to mention a fully functional First Aid kit.
